Forgandenny Village Hall

Fire Safety Briefing

A fire in our premises would be devastating to our community and would put lives at risk. We need the co-operation of all users to assist us to prevent fires. We also need to ensure that everyone understands the emergency procedures which are to be followed if the fire alarm sounds.

Control measures:

  • The Hall Committee take action to reduce the risk of fire, e.g. by having waste collected regularly, imposing smoking restrictions and undertaking electrical checks.
  • Please help us by:
    • not allowing large amounts of combustible materials to accumulate
    • keeping the area tidy and never storing combustible items in escape routes or stairways
    • not obstructing fire escapes, fire exits or any fire-related equipment
    • keeping combustible items away from sources of ignition, e.g. heaters, light bulbs
    • if using flammable liquids, working carefully to avoid spillage and following any instructions you've been given
    • checking the condition of portable electrical equipment before plugging in
    • ensuring that self-closing fire doors are not wedged in the open position
    • observing the no smoking policy
    • reporting any signs of trespass, fire hazards and other concerns to the Hall Committee
  • This building is fitted with a fire alarm system and the alarm sound is a continuous siren
  • The alarm is activated by pressing the centre of the manual alarm call point. These are located by exits.
  • The alarm system is tested regularly. If the alarm sounds at any other time please follow the evacuation procedure
  • There are 4 exits from this building. Please familiarise yourself with the alternative escape routes.
  • The assembly point is located at the Front of the Hall.
  • If you discover a fire, as your first action, please shout FIRE to alert your colleagues. Only attempt to fight the fire if it is safe to do so. Otherwise activate the nearest fire alarm
  • On hearing the fire alarm:
    • do not stop to collect personal belongings
    • as you leave, close doors and windows if it does not cause delay, and direct visitors to leave
    • evacuate the building using nearest fire exit
    • go to the assembly point
    • check that someone has called the fire brigade.
